Owls Hall is proud of its involvement in a scheme to bring a group of African children over from Lesotho to spend a week learning about British culture by living with families in Essex.
The trip was organised by Braintree Rugby Club, which raised £25,000 of funding through a charity event – Owls Hall donated the cost of bringing one child from the group on this unforgettable journey.
The group comprised 20 youngsters who live with no electricity at home in Lesotho, and who have never experienced little luxuries such as a visit to the cinema. For these children, it was a dream come true to spend a week with their Essex hosts. Each child was placed with a volunteer family from the Braintree area, who took care of them for the week and in many cases furnished them with clothing and shoes to take home with them. During the trip the children took part in various organised activities, including training sessions at Saracens Rugby Club, a trip to Downing Street, and an outing to a local cinema.
