Balfour Beatty Major Projects contacted us to help with the design and construction of a site compound to accommodate up to 300 people who would be responsible for the construction of the new A120 road from Stansted to Braintree.
From the initial meeting it was clear that timing of the works was crucial since deadlines were already in place for Balfour Beatty to start on the Bypass work. We were able to take their requirements on board for connections of 110 caravans for housing accommodation and connection to offices and support staff buildings.
Understanding the importance of the works, we were able to respond very quickly which meant they were able to maintain their tight schedules. An added problem was that the client had immediate waste storage problems; this was solved by supplying temporary storage facilities which enabled their workforce to carry on at the site.
A treatment plant was sized on the produced flow rates per day and appropriate alarm systems were included. As an emergency procedure a 18180 litre sealed tank was installed beside the treatment plant as an overflow system. This was in the interests of health and safety as the installation was next to a water course, this in turn satisfied any concerns the Environment Agency had.
As part of the works, a system of foul pipe runs from the caravans and buildings with main pipes was installed. These pipes were then connected to the treatment plant through manholes and inspection chamber in line with building regulations.
As part of our project we were also responsible for the installation of the grease separator for the canteen.
For the supply of clean water every caravan was equipped with a stop cock and all offices and additional stores and workshops with mains water supply. A fire hydrant system was also installed up to connection onto the meter.
Further to the completion of the works we now carry out regular servicing and desludging of their equipment.
